Pittsfield Church Receives Grant

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Baptist Builders Club gave a grant to First Baptist Church in Pittsfield last month. From the Baptist Bulletin website:

Michael Nolan, director of Baptist Builders Club, said the project was a perfect fit for the fund’s purpose to help struggling and mission churches. Nolan also noted that Baptist Builders Club has a long history of helping churches in the Quincy area; Columbus Road Baptist was started with a $2,000 grant to Calvary Baptist Church in 1960.

“If four GARBC churches are working together and believe that a struggling church is still viable, we want to do all we can to help them,” Nolan said.

The Baptist Bulletin has just posted an article about the Javaux family from Silvis Heights Baptist Church plus Jessica Roberts from Brown Street Baptist Church. They decided to make a mini-missions trip out of the conference and minister to a church who’s pastor went home to be with the Lord.

Pastor Greg Javaux says, “It was a wonderful trip. We experienced the joy that comes from serving others for Jesus’ sake…”

Praise God for their willingness to serve in such a unique fashion. Way to go guys!

by Eileen Fields

It wasn’t long ago I was sitting on our couch surrounded by three of our grandchildren as I read to them from a story book. After I finished the story, our grandson, Noah, asked if he could read it to us as I held the book. He did very well and I was impressed. Then his older sister said, “He has it memorized!” He’d heard the story so many times and had progressed enough in his reading skills that he could read the whole book without any mistakes.

So Much!

by Bob Fields

As we quickly approach Christmas 2005, many Christians will get caught up in the Christmas spirit of gift-giving. Many of us have already been ask the question, “What do you want for Christmas?” When I was a child, I could answer that question rather quickly. Now as an “older” adult, that question is much more difficult to answer. The reason it is so difficult to answer is because I have so much! I suppose the spiritual answer should be, “God has given me so much.” I struggle with that response because I’m convinced that too much of what I have is because I bought it for myself rather than God giving it to me. I can rationalize that God provided the means for me to get those things, but I’m more convinced than ever that some of what I have is simply because I wanted it or I wanted more.
