The Minister as Shepherd
by Charles Jefferson
Reviewed by Greg Javaux
I enjoyed this book very much as Charles Jefferson does some good historical work on what the shepherd is and relates it to the many references to a shepherd in Scripture. Probably the best chapter for me was the “Shepherd’s Opportunity.” It challenged me to think more of my relationship to the people as a shepherd to sheep and how that relationship can be expressed in today’s busy world. The chapter on “Shepherd’s Temptations” was a good one to remind me of the subtle temptations that come my way in my position. The last chapter, “Shepherd’s Reward,” was very encouraging to keep going, even when it is tempting to quit and think it’s not worth it to keep shepherding these wayward sheep! It is always good to read a book that challenges me to be a better pastor to people. You can purchase this book at CBD.

We would like to see 25-30 churches participate in this yearly offering for the needs of our Fellowship. Last year the total given was just under $2,400.00.

Spiritual Leadership
by J. Oswald Sanders (1967 Moody Press, 179 pages)
Reviewed by Mike Hess
This is a very “down to earth” and “practical” book on leadership. Sanders deals with some of the paradoxes that exist between wanting to pursue a position of leadership and yet staying humble and broken before the Lord with the responsibility that He has given to us. Sanders talks about subjects such as essential qualities of leadership, the leader and time, the leader and reading and various other practical day to day aspects of the Christian leader’s life…
